School Holiday Fun: Icing Biscuits

So I know this is nothing new, but hey if it ain't broke, don't fix it!

The girls picked out 2 cookie cutters from our (extensive) collection. They helped roll out the dough and cut the shapes. Bake and let them cool! (don't forget to let them cool completely!)

Then, decorating!

I made royal icing as the recipe for the biscuits used the egg yolk. 

I used spoons for the icing, knives haven't worked well in the past here. You could use piping bags or zip loc bags, but we didn't have enough icing to warrant the faffing.

Yes it can get messy (why I cleaned my floors first, I have no idea). But it's easy and keeps them occupied for a decent amount of time!

School holiday fun (a hopefully series!)

Well since it's the summer holidays in Australia I thought I might do a few quick posts for things to do with kids. Mainly quick and simple at home type stuff so you can enjoy a coffee while their occupied! 

I'm not sure where I saw this, when I find the source I'll put up the link. 

First I opened up one of Lyra's nappies (clean!). The original idea just used a normal nappy which didn't sit well with me, but luckily we use Eco nappies so I felt a bit better about letting the kids play with it. It was also a broken one, the tabs were missing so I otherwise would've chucked it, so it's kinda recycling right? 

Empty the contents into a bowl and add water! You will not BELIEVE how much that stuff sucks up! I wish I had've measured it, but it would've been at least 3L. Keep adding water til it's goopy, then give it to the kids! I added some glitter and got out some little toys to play in it with. It's kinda like snow, so if you have Frozen obsessed kiddies it's great! I'm going to just sprinkle it around the garden when they're done as a water saving granule too.

So I decided to keep the 52 week project up for 2015! It's the only thing I blog at the moment! I'm hoping to get some more substantial things up soon, but with 3 kids at home with me full-time for the holidays, it probably won't be til the older two head back to school. Anyway...

 Lyra: I couldn't pick this week, so two it is! At the beach for the first time and someone decided that kissing the sand at the park was a good idea. Also we clearly have a new grin (and 5 new teeth, four are molars!)

Eva: we went and picked avocados at a farm out in the hills.

Chloe: my biggest water baby.
